The German Typewriter Museum has one of the most important German collections on the history of typewriters, with around 1200 objects. The collection invites you to take a journey through 160 years of technological and social history. Starting with the invention of a carpenter from South Tyrol in 1864, through the triumphant advance of this technology in the context of industrialisation at the beginning of the 20th century to the 1990s when the days of the typewriter were already numbered - the German Typewriter Museum brings the history of these special devices to life. At the same time, you will learn interesting facts about the people who were so important for the history of the typewriter - inventors and designers as well as secretaries and mechanics who worked with these machines on a daily basis. In this way, the social and technical significance of this development for our modern, digital world becomes tangible. Based in Bayreuth since 1936, the museum is now located in the immediate neighbourhood of Thiergarten Palace.

Guided tours at 14:30 on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Quiz for children. Further group tours by arrangement.
