Bladder stones were already surgically removed in ancient Greece - a life-threatening and very painful procedure at the time. Visitors to the Museum of Medical History, the only specialist museum of its kind in Germany, can learn about this and much more. When redesigning the permanent exhibition, the focus was placed on the history of medicine in the 18th century due to the history of the Baroque building of the "Old Anatomy" as a place of education at that time - when "the medical heart of Bavaria" beat here. Away from the usual chronology of development towards significant "strong things" - this trend also continues in the other areas, creating space for more differentiated and critical perspectives on the history (and present) of medicine. In the most magnificent room and centrepiece of the museum, the former "Theatrum anatomicum", anatomical preparations are exhibited, but also objects from botany. The collection of medical technology covers modern medicine and its treatment methods - from the reconstruction of the first artificial kidney to the topic of "healing with lasers and shock waves". On the grounds of the university's former botanical garden, visitors can also explore a medicinal plant garden with scent and touch stations.
