Bilder erzählen – Sammlung Peter Schmidt (Telling Pictures - Collection Peter Schmidt)
From work in the countryside to social life in the city - genre painting depicts people's everyday lives and, with its wealth of detail, tells stories that are still fascinating and moving today. Anecdotal and entertaining, the paintings in the collection offer a fascinating insight into the lives and imaginations of the social classes from the second half of the 19th century. The core of the exhibition in the private foundation museum "Bilder erzählen - Sammlung Peter Schmidt" is formed by paintings from the Munich School and the Düsseldorf School of Painting with works by their important representatives Carl Theodor von Piloty, Wilhelm von Diez, Franz von Defregger and Hugo Kauffmann as well as Ludwig Knaus, Benjamin Vautier, Christian Ludwig Bokelmann and Ernestine Friedrichsen. Works by European and American genre painters complement the collection of Waldkraiburg entrepreneur and art collector Peter Schmidt (1932-2017).
