Bergbaumuseum Peißenberg (Mining Museum Peißenberg)
For over 100 years, coal mining shaped the face of the market town of Peißenberg. Today, the mining museum is located on the former mine site. In 14 rooms, it provides information about the formation of coal seams in the foothills of the Alps and the history of mining in the Pfaffenwinkel. A cross-section of mining techniques up to the closure of the mine in 1971 illustrates the revolutionary developments in this field. In addition to shaft models, tools and pit lamps, uniforms, photos and personal documents give an insight into the working world of the miner. Visitors can relive this on a trip into the neighbouring "Tiefstollen", which conveys the atmosphere of mining over a length of 200 m - from the pit telephone to the miner's toilet.
