Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv (Bavarian Main State Archives)
The Bayerisches Main State Archives (Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv) holds documents on Bavarian history from over twelve hundred years. Although it was officially founded in 1921 through the merger of four independent state archives, its origins go back to the medieval archives of the Bavarian dukes. Since 1977/78, the Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv (Bavarian Main State Archives) has been housed in the centre of Munich at Ludwig- und Schönfeldstr. Its holdings mainly comprise records, documents, official books, maps, plans, posters, photos, films and modern data media.
