Badhaus Museum und Galerie (Bathhouse Museum and Gallery)
"Bathing is not only superfluous, but also very harmful to people," wrote a doctor in 1655. People did not always see it that way: In the Middle Ages, the bathhouse was a place of cleanliness, conviviality and pleasure. In every larger settlement there was a public bathhouse, in Kulmbach even three. The "Obere Badstube" (Upper Bathhouse) from the 14th century has been preserved and can be visited today as a museum, the only one of its kind in Bavaria. A tour of the rooms gives visitors an insight into the medieval world of bathing. On the upper floor is the former studio of Kulmbach painter Michel Weiß (1867-1951), who created impressions of the town of Kulmbach and the surrounding area as well as impressive portraits of Kulmbach personalities. Regional and international artists also present their works in a gallery space.
