Exhibition with works by Pavel Trnka

Waldgeschichtliches Museum St. Oswald (Forest History Museum St. Oswald)
"The Bohemian Forest is the region where part of my family comes from. According to my Bavarian relatives, the family tree of our ancestors goes back to the 16th century. I've been familiar with the area since I was a child. Three years ago, I started to artistically explore various places in the Šumava National Park with plein air studies. Based on these open-air ink drawings, I made several large-format charcoal drawings in my studio, in which I tried to reproduce the atmosphere, impression and character in a reduced form.
I see this project as a beginning and would very much like to get to know the Czech and Bavarian part of this largest forest area in Central Europe in detail and capture it artistically."
Pavel Trnka, Prague
Trnka's work is divided into two main branches: a more realistic and a more experimental one, in both of which he uses materials as diverse as rust, ash, copper and ink. Thematically, trees, rocks, underground life, natural processes of transience and the transformation of the landscape are at the centre of his work. The influence of Chinese landscape painting and philosophy is unmistakable - in their harmonious relationship between man and landscape.
