A place of longing, a place of recreation, a nature conservation site, a production site and an energy site - the forest has had a wide variety of functions in the Fichtelgebirge for centuries!

WALDgeschichten Fichtelgebirge sheds light on the development of the forest in the region. It tells stories of wild hunters, herb women, hammer lords, Venetians, god-fearing woodcutters and the first tourist in the Fichtelgebirge - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

On display are the first travel guides, historical maps from the Bamberg State Archives, old woodcutters' tools as well as richly painted forest glasses, glass paterns and minerals. There are also archaeological finds, such as petrified wood, and a report on a sensational archaeological find near Bischofsgrün in 1801.

A presentation developed by the Hof University of Applied Sciences, Media Design, traces the path of wood from seedling to furniture. Hunter's camouflage clothing is available in a selfie corner. The exhibition is an experience for the whole family.
