"Stuttgart 21" is regarded as the prototype for a new generation of railway stations. Construction has been underway in the heart of Baden-Württemberg's state capital for more than 15 years, with the first trains scheduled to run here at the end of the year and the grand opening planned for 2026. The special exhibition provides information about the design process and the structural realisation and offers a 360° view of the underground station concourse.
In the gallery in Hall III, numerous photos and two large models create an image of a railway station that will set an example for similar construction projects in its combination of ecology, economy, technology, comfort and safety. The highlight of the architectural show by "christoph ingenhoven architects" is an almost four metre high rotunda with a diameter of nine metres, which offers visitors a panoramic view of the shell of the underground station hall.
An extensive supporting programme of discussions and lectures is planned to accompany the special exhibition, which will place the significance of "Stuttgart 21" not only for the infrastructure, but also for the way society deals with such major projects.
