The forgotten sultanas

Funny stories, with love by e.o.plauen

25.04.2024 - 17.09.2024 ,
Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum (Valentin Karlstadt Museum)

  • Museum café.

Who doesn't know them, the picture stories by e.o. plauen?
Father and son, an unshakeable complicity. The cheeky little boy with the black mop of hair and the seemingly strict, very loving father, a child's head with a child's soul. We know father and son, but often no longer know the author.

What kind of a strange name is e.o. plauen?
Erich Ohser gave himself this pseudonym because he was banned from publishing books under his real name by the National Socialists. He was able to publish again under the pseudonym e.o. plauen. In the end, however, he paid for his upright stance with his life.

In this exhibition, the artist Steffen Haas approaches Erich Ohser through the eyes of a draughtsman. He shows the same sensitivity as Ohser in the selection and subject matter of his picture stories.

No, this is not a "normal" museum, it is a "Musäum", just as unique and multi-layered as the personalities to whom it is dedicated: Karl Valentin and his congenial partner Liesl Karlstadt. A mixture...
