For half a century, a treasure slumbered undiscovered in an attic. Well stowed away in countless cardboard boxes, more than 600 high-quality handicraft animals made of raffia, a textile material, were stored there. It was the estate of Else Stadler-Jacobs, who produced countless of these animals as decorative objects from 1927 onwards and sold them worldwide under the name Bastowerkstatt.

The comprehensive oeuvre of Else Stadler-Jacobs (1899-1997) is unique in its abundance and originality. Over the years, she created more than 100 domestic and exotic animal species from coloured raffia in a wide variety of sizes - from two-centimetre small chicks to two-metre high jungle scenes. With humour, a creative spirit and a great love of detail, Else Stadler-Jacobs created her own personal animal world.

The tim shows a large part of the animals within its permanent exhibition and thus tells the remarkable story of the entrepreneur Else Stadler-Jacobs for the first time.
