The word "cool" is part of everyday speech today. But what or who is actually "cool"? And what is behind the term "coolness"?
The new exhibition at tim explores the phenomenon of coolness as a leitmotif of fashion in the 20th century. People used it to express their cool, aloof and often rebellious attitudes, especially by wearing appropriate clothing. Film stars such as Marlene Dietrich in a black suit with top hat and cigarette or James Dean in a T-shirt, jeans and leather jacket served as "cool" role models of their time. Visitors to the exhibition will encounter them and many other exciting icons of contemporary history in around 300 exhibits." According to Murr, these range from the 1910s to the present, including many contemporary garments and accessories. In addition to "cool" jeans from brands such as Levi's, Lee and Wrangler, suits by Jean Paul Gaultier and Giorgio Armani as well as haute couture dresses by Dior are also on display. Not least with the help of photos, film material, literature of the Beat generation and music from jazz to hip-hop, visitors embark on a fascinating journey through time and explore the attitudes and emotions of "coolness" - then and now.
