Between January and November 1946, over two million Sudeten Germans were forcibly displaced from the Czechoslovak Republic. This regulated expulsion, ordered by the Allied victorious powers, was intended, in the words of the Czechoslovak President Edvard Beneš, to be carried out ‘humanely and with compassion’. This is what the exhibition title, which is accompanied by a large question mark, refers to. Eighty years on, this special exhibition at the Sudeten German Museum commemorates this event.
