Andreas Legath - TENEBRAE
Painting, installation and bronzes
03.08.2025 - 09.11.2025 ,
Studienkirche St. Joseph (Exhibition Room Church St Joseph)
The artist Andreas Legath, who lives and works in Bad Aibling, is showing two large groups of works in the profaned church interior.
The installation "Deadwood" in the centre is to be understood in its artificial beauty as a symbol of growth and decay and thus builds a bridge to the panel paintings on the sides.
The works, taken from various cycles - Basento, Vulcano, Teverina and Cattedrale - show the vulnerability of nature and, not least, the aesthetic appeal contained therein in their chapped, haptic surfaces.
In a strictly reduced palette, the paintings trace a hidden beauty away from fashions and garish colours. The pictures can be perceived abstractly or in terms of a concrete landscape object, as landscape is not depicted but becomes the occasion for painting. Consequently, the strictly selective choice of scenic objects is already an important creative act, both in terms of composition and colour.
