Staffelseemuseum (Lake Staffelsee Museum)
With the exhibition “Im Verborgenen” (In Secret), the Staffelseemuseum is turning the spotlight on three artists from Riedhausen – all of whom have since passed away.
Jakob Ott learnt the art of woodcarving in Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He created delicate wood carvings as well as sculptures and figures carved from tree roots.
Sieglinde Heiß’s artistic talent was evident from childhood. In the late 1970s, she learnt reverse glass painting at the Schedler-Simet art school. Her paintings depict a wealth of different motifs.
Rudolf Hentschel was a trained waiter and later a vocational college teacher. He taught himself watercolour painting. He found his inspiration in our beautiful countryside.
Thus, in the second half of the 20th century, a wide variety of works were created using wood, glass and paper. However, they remained ‘hidden from view’ because no major exhibitions took place during the artists’ lifetimes.
