Private photographs represent a wide range of memories: Family celebrations, children's life stages, holidays, Christmas or club celebrations and much more. All of these photo motifs, which have been photographed since the 20th century, can still be found in almost every family and every household today. Stored in albums, boxes or photo books, they provide information about what was considered important and worth remembering. For the new special exhibition at the Zirndorf Museum, which will be on display from 15 July 2023, numerous photographs have been viewed and the exhibits carefully selected: recurring themes that show visitors the changes in living environments over the past decades. All the images on display were intended for private use, even if some were taken by professionals. As photography is always closely linked to the advancement of technology and cameras are therefore just as diverse as the people who press the shutter release, the development is illustrated with typical camera models of the time. In addition to Voigtländer, Zeiss and Polaroid, the Zirndorf-based companies Metz and Zimmermann are also represented. Zimmermann, for example, founded the Junka camera factory in the 1930s and in the 1950s manufactured cameras for the mail-order company Quelle in the specially established 'camera construction' department. Metz, on the other hand, was the market leader in the manufacture of flash units for decades. Visitors embark on a journey through 170 years of photography history!
