A writing festival

The exhibition at the Städtische Galerie (Municipal gallery) Rosenheim shows a cross-section of the unique work of the printer Josua Reichert (1937-2020). The winner of the Cultural Award of the City of Rosenheim was considered one of the most important artists of his time in Europe in the field of typography. His works merge type and image, text and typography into a single entity, simultaneously requiring reading and viewing and leading to a new aesthetic dimension. The colourful typefaces printed in Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew and Arabic letters span a wide range of writing cultures, world literatures and times. Reichert's typographic images, known as "Poesia Typographica", transform letters into free forms and figures. The exhibition presents works from all of the artist's work groups - stamp prints, collages, broadsheets, portfolios and posters, including the works presented at documenta 3 (1964) and documenta 4 (1968), testify to his sheer unlimited artistic ingenuity. A feast for the senses
