The Regensburg Citizens' Festival, one of the most traditional in Germany, is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Time for a look back: The first citizens' festival in 1973 was intended to sensitise the citizens of Regensburg to the beauty of their city and show them the value of their historic old town. The latter was closed to traffic for an entire weekend, the otherwise inaccessible inner courtyards were opened up and celebrations were held in the medieval squares.

It should be a festival "by citizens for citizens" - every two years - to this day. This is why many Regensburg associations and initiatives are involved in the festivities and can present themselves and their objectives to the interested public. The citizens' festival very quickly became an event that created a sense of identity and is now steeped in history.

This exhibition aims to recall the spirit of optimism at the beginning, as well as the various incidents and events over the decades.
