Unrecognised treasures
from the museum depot
25.05.2025 - 09.11.2025 ,
Stadtmuseum Mainburg (Mainburg City Museum)
The exhibition is dedicated to all those Mainburg residents who have made this large collection possible with their donations in kind for over 100 years. For 105 years, the Heimat und Museum association has sifted through and preserved valuable pieces of contemporary and regional history on a voluntary basis, making large parts of the special exhibition for this year's "1200 years of Mainburg" anniversary possible.
The exhibition focussed in particular on objects that are linked to significant events in Mainburg's history, convey stories that have been handed down over the years, have not been shown much or have only recently been added to the collection. Among the objects lying dormant in the depot, we found suitable historical photos, plans, models, tools, furniture, club flags, technical equipment and architectural elements.
They come, for example, from traditional crafts, firefighting, Mainburg's remodelling and partly from the history of the association.
Take a look at a few selected time frames:
Mainburg's connection to the railway network (1895)
Times of emergency I. World War I (1914 - 1918)
Inflation (1923)
Nazi dictatorship (1933 - 1945) and its serious consequences
Demolition and rebuilding of the Church of Our Lady (1957)
Territorial reform and the end of the Mainburg district (1972)
