Eine bomben Aussicht
Photo project by Christian Springer and Albert Kapfhammer

Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt (Ingolstadt City Museum)
Thirty-one large-format black and white photos. A man carries a black briefcase on his head. He is sitting by the river, shopping, crossing the road, reading - everyday life. Carrying a briefcase on his head restricts his senses. He can't know what's going on around him, he can't see, smell or hear anything.
The cabaret artist Christian Springer, who is under the briefcase, wanders through everyday scenes. The images, with their mixture of reality and comedy, are a reminder of common sense in threatening times. After all, the bag on his head is not an original idea of Christian Springer. In the 1960s, there was a serious appeal from the German government: If nuclear war comes, protect yourself with a briefcase over your head, among other things. This was the message in the government brochure, because "Everyone has a chance" was the campaign slogan at the time.
"That's absurd", comments Christian Springer, "the only way to survive a nuclear war is to not have a nuclear war". The exhibition is Christian Springer's satirical commentary on current events.
He was accompanied on his forays to familiar and unfamiliar places by his friend and photographer Albert Kapfhammer, who captures the critical and ironic scenes in classic black and white photographs. As the photo sessions were accompanied from the outset by Putin's threats to use the atomic bomb, the photographs are at best also understood as an anti-war appeal.
The photo exhibition "Eine bomben Aussicht" premiered in Beirut, Lebanon, in July 2023. After stops in Garching, Burghausen, Munich, Raubling, Gauting and Regensburg, it will be coming to the Stadtmuseum Ingolstadt (Ingolstadt City Museum) from February to April 2025.
