Stadtmuseum Herzogenaurach (City Museum Herzogenaurach)
The exhibition shows how an astonishing success story began in the town of Aurach. On 1 July 1924, Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler had their joint "Schuhfabrik Gebrüder Dassler" officially entered in the commercial register. This marks the birth of sports shoes from the Dassler company. In the midst of the global economic crisis, the two brothers develop a "niche product" into a collection of highly functional shoes specially tailored to the respective sport. The Dasslers' racing shoes with spikes and lightweight football boots revolutionise the market and gain international recognition.
The family history of the Dasslers in Herzogenaurach is also traced. Parents Christoph and Pauline lay the foundations for the lives of their children. The politically and economically crisis-ridden years are characterised by the triumph of sport - also in Aurach. With the help of original exhibits and pictorial documents, the exhibition describes the youthful years of the two brothers. In addition to the First World War and their first professional steps, they are characterised by a wide range of sporting activities.
As enthusiastic supporters of the sports movement, they also transferred their striving for top performance to the manufacture of their sports shoes. And for every sport: from football to boxing and skiing to athletics. The big breakthrough came when top athletes wearing Dassler shoes competed at the Olympic Games. A look at the Second World War and the separation in 1948 closes the joint chapter of the Dassler brothers and thus the exhibition in the City Museum.
