Anna Zimmermann is presenting a selection of sculptural works at the Stadtgalerie (City Gallery) in the Stadtmuseum, which are characterised by their organic formal language, finely balanced material aesthetics and subtle spatial effect.
Zimmermann's works are created from fireclay and porcelain and can be divided into three groups of works: floral forms, animal-like shapes and geometrically structured wall objects - so-called mirror fields. The objects seem familiar and strange at the same time. They are reminiscent of oversized flowers, climbing plants, creepers or mineral formations - and yet defy clear categorisation. It is this ambivalence between beauty and threat, observation of nature and imagination that makes the works so appealing.
