The art of SAXA, alias Sascha Lehmann (born 1975), is word painting. He writes his pictures letter by letter, primarily using one tool - his words. In the land of poets and thinkers, he writes poems, thoughts, stories and biographies.
For him, words are essential tools for artistically engaging with people and their stories. Reading and writing, listening and speaking promote dialogue and enable mutual understanding. SAXA endeavours to ensure that his portraits not only depict people, but also express their personalities.
He has been writing poems, thoughts and stories since his youth. He is passionate about our language, stories, communication and dialogue and, last but not least, handwriting. For him, handwriting is as unique and expressive as each and every one of us.
His handwritten word paintings with ink on canvas combine literature and visual art in a unique way. Through this combination, the artist reinforces and scrutinises contextual connections, themes and statements. He always invites his audience to engage in dialogue. Handwriting as a personal form of expression is particularly important to him. This is why he regularly works with schools to inspire children, young people, teachers and parents for language and writing.
SAXA's works are now represented in numerous exhibitions, collections and institutions at home and abroad.
at home and abroad. His works can be found in museums such as the Karl Marx House in Trier, the August Macke House in Bonn and the Deutsches Museum (German Museum) in Remscheid.
