The painter, draughtsman and illustrator Michael Mathias Prechtl (1926–2003), who was born in Amberg, would have celebrated his 100th birthday on 26 April 2026. The Amberg City Museum is marking this anniversary with a special exhibition that examines the artist’s work from new perspectives and offers insights into aspects that have received little attention to date.
Prechtl gained international renown through his cover illustrations for publications including the New York Times and DER SPIEGEL. His images are multi-layered and rich in allusion. As such, they invite reflection and close observation.
