Ismaning - so beautiful and peaceful.
The history of the Ismaning castle complex.
14.09.2025 - 12.04.2026 ,
Schlossmuseum Ismaning (Ismaning Castle Museum)
The castle complex, which has characterised the townscape for centuries, lies at the heart of the municipality.
The special exhibition traces the numerous changes to the castle, including the outbuildings and castle park. Today, the castle houses the town hall, while the castle museum in the former gardener's house provides information about the history of the castle and the municipality. In contrast to the castle, the current gardener's house is merely a reconstruction of the building shell. The building ensemble was originally the seat of the prince-bishop's administration, later the summer residence of the bishops of Freising and the retreat of the Dukes of Leuchtenberg, but also an agricultural estate and recreation centre.
In addition to objects from the museum's collection, the exhibition includes two paintings that have never been shown in public before. One of the paintings shows an idyllic view of Ismaning Palace at the time of the Leuchtenberg family, the other is a portrait of Johann Theodor, Prince-Bishop of Freising, who was so important for the palace complex.
The exhibition is curated by district curator Dr Christine Heinz, who has uncovered some new findings in the course of her research.
A book by the curator with numerous illustrations about the castle complex will be published by Franz Schiermeier during the course of the exhibition (ISBN: 978-3-948974-36-7).
Opening of the exhibition: Sunday, 14 September, 11.00 a.m.
Duration of the exhibition: 14 September to 12 April 2026
