Entangled

The exhibition to mark the artist's 100th birthday shows drawings and paintings from all phases of his career - including unknown and surprising works - and honours Rischar as an important artist and a committed member of the city's cultural scene.
The painter and draughtsman Siegfried Rischar was born in Aschaffenburg on 22 August 1924 and in his art he developed into an attentive observer and commentator of what was happening around him. He lovingly portrayed the people around him in fine pencil drawings. In contrast, his large oil paintings in bold, dark colours and abstract forms, which focus on war and destruction, are accusatory and cry out in despair. And in between? Rischar's love of literature and mythology or his curiosity about other countries and cultures shine through again and again in his works. Man, integrated, almost "entangled" in his environment, his social structures, his culture and history and in the political present, is the central theme in Siegfried Rischar's work. At the same time, the artist himself does not stand uninvolved on the sidelines and pass judgement with a raised index finger. He is part of the world that he captures in his pictures, "entangled" with it, the people and their stories.
Rischar has not only left his mark on his home town as a visual artist. As an active member of various organisations, such as the Rotary Club or the "Schlaraffia Asciburgia" friendship association, he also helped to shape cultural life. In 2001, he received the City of Aschaffenburg's Culture Prize "for promoting Aschaffenburg as a city of culture".
Today, Rischar's works are not only to be found in private and institutional collections. He is also still present in public and sacred spaces - in Aschaffenburg and the region, as well as in Frankfurt and Berlin.
