Jianling Zhang. Media Art Award 2023

AkademieGalerie, Munich: Tuesday to Saturday from 5 - 8 p.m.

Jianling Zhang, graduate of the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts) Munich, has been awarded the Media Art Prize 2023 of the Ingvild and Stephan Goetz Art Foundation for her project proposal The First and Final girl. The grant includes 5,000 euros for the realisation of the work and is linked to an exhibition in the AkademieGalerie. With her film project, Zhang wants to explore the history and formation of monstrous femininity and reproductive forces in horror films. She is concerned with the idea of parthenogenetic motherhood - a mother who escapes male control and is able to reproduce independently.
The Media Art Prize of the Ingvild and Stephan Goetz Art Foundation is a cooperation with the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München (Academy of Fine Arts Munich) and the Sammlung Goetz (Goetz collection). It is awarded annually for an initial period of three years in order to promote young artists in the field of media art, to support the creation of new works and to strengthen their public perception.
