Pink
An exhibition about the importance of colour in art and everyday life

"Pink matters", especially in times like these!
What the colour means in art and everyday life is the theme of the PINK exhibition, which can be seen at the Pasinger Fabrik (Pasinger Factory) from 13 March to 3 August 2025. Works by almost 30 artists will be presented, accompanied by a programme of dance, theatre, film - and workshops in which guests can experiment artistically with the colour pink themselves.
Until the Rococo period, pink stood for masculinity, but its meaning changed with the French Revolution: men stopped wearing coloured clothing and pink was appropriated by women. After the first Barbie doll was sold in pink packaging in 1959, it became a "girl's colour", and in Western Europe pink often represents femininity in a clichéd way.
However, in the fight for equal rights, the colour also stands for empowerment and self-determination in terms of sexuality and lifestyle.
The exhibition uses contemporary art to reflect on the symbolic meanings of the colour as well as its social appropriation.
