The upcoming exhibition brings the sea to the mountains: over 65 works - paintings, watercolours and drawings from the 17th century to the immediate present - reveal the great fascination and unbroken attraction of the ocean, which continues to inspire artists to new interpretations. It is a great honour that paintings of this quality from private collections can be seen in our rooms.
Cheerful beach life and idyllic harbour views, impressionistic plays of colour and abstract, atmospheric depictions: The works show a multi-faceted panorama of maritime motifs and tell very different stories of calm and strength, movement and change, longing and infinite expanse.
