Through and through.
Leatherworkers and furriers: then and now
01.05.2026 - 27.09.2026 ,
Oberpfälzer Handwerksmuseum (Upper Palatinate Craft Museum)
“With skin and hair” – you can immerse yourself fully in the exhibition, feel the leather and fur, and learn so much about the trades of tanning and furriery.
Two professions with a long tradition, but which are no longer very common.
Fortunately, both are still represented in the Cham district: the Leder Perlinger tannery in Furth im Wald and the Hofstetter Pelz & Design furriery in Rötz.
The exhibition shows how the world of work has changed, for example in terms of working methods, competition from industrial production, and environmental awareness.
The examples of the Hofstetter and Perlinger companies demonstrate that it is entirely possible to adapt, break new ground, and still carry on a long tradition of craftsmanship.
Once again this year, there will be numerous creative workshops for children and adults at the Craft Museum, organised by the Friends of the Upper Palatinate Craft Museum.
The Upper Palatinate Craft Museum is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays from 2 pm to 5 pm, as well as by appointment. Guided tours available on request.
