With skin and hair.
Tanners and furriers past and present
09.05.2025 - 28.09.2025 ,
Oberpfälzer Handwerksmuseum (Upper Palatinate Craft Museum)
"With skin and hair" - you can fully immerse yourself in the exhibition, touch leather and fur and learn lots of interesting facts about the professions of tanner and furrier.
Two professions that have a long tradition, but are no longer very common.
Fortunately, both are still represented in the district of Cham: the Leder Perlinger tannery in Furth im Wald and the Hofstetter Pelz & Design furriery in Rötz.
The exhibition shows how the world of work has changed, e.g. working methods, competition from industrial production or environmental awareness.
The example of the Hofstetter and Perlinger companies shows that it is perfectly possible to adapt, break new ground and still continue a long tradition of craftsmanship.
Once again this year, there will be numerous creative workshops for children and adults in the Crafts Museum, organised by the Friends of the Upper Palatinate Crafts Museum.
The Upper Palatinate Crafts Museum is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. Guided tours on request.
