The trade of the bather goes back to the Middle Ages and the bathing parlours, which are not comparable to today's swimming pools or wellness areas. In rural areas in particular, bathers had numerous tasks: they did hairdressing, cupped, applied various tinctures and healing methods, pulled teeth, treated wounds and broken limbs and were called to perform post-mortems. Being a barber was a profession that required training and a licence to practise. The exhibition in the Upper Palatinate Museum of Crafts takes a look at the work of the bather and shows his equipment as well as preserved tinctures.
There is a museum rally to accompany the exhibition for young visitors, and prizes will be raffled off among the participants at the end of the season.
