From 11 April, the Textile Museum will open its doors for a special exhibition: "From craft to art" by the museum quilters. The creative seamstresses have been meeting regularly for 30 years to practise and share their passion for quilting and patchwork. The artists are taking the anniversary as an opportunity to take a look at their development and show how their craft has transformed into an art form over the years.
The special exhibition "From craft to art" not only shows the diverse works of the past decades, but also the exciting transformation that the group has undergone. "We meet once a month, always on the third Tuesday at the Textile Museum. Then we work together, exchange ideas and develop new ideas together," explains museum educator Ulrike Oelschlegel, who has been leading the group for 19 years.
Over the years, the museum quilters have designed numerous exhibitions of their own, as well as organising and participating in the popular special exhibitions of the German Patchwork Guild at the Textile Museum. "We are delighted that the Textile Museum has such committed artists, for whom we have been a meeting place for so long," says Lena Grießhammer, who has been in charge of the Textile Museum since March. "The special exhibition is not only a great opportunity to admire the creative works of the museum's quilters, but also a chance to learn more about the history of quilting and patchwork."
