The four-poster beds from the Kleinlosnitz museum collection will be on display until the end of the museum season. A four-poster bed had practical uses and the sleeper enjoyed visible prestige. Humans spend a third of their lives sleeping. However, sleep in earlier times could hardly be described as heavenly. Sleeping places could be a bed of straw in the stable, a kitchen bench or the corner of a stove. Beds stood in corridors and passageways. But the four-poster bed was still a special place to sleep. Its decoration reflects the religious and mythological significance of sleep. "God before Auchen the beloved in your arms, the one makes you see, the other makes you warm."
