Wechselspiel(zeug) - Folk art from the Erzgebirge in Oberammergau
12.04.2024 - 03.11.2024 ,
Oberammergau Museum (Oberammergau Museum)
Folk art fun and playful: The Oberammergau works of woodcarving art, Noah's arks from the Old Testament, jumping jacks, carousels and rocking horses are joined by their wooden counterparts from the Erzgebirge: the same motifs depicted in a completely different and no less colourful way enter into a multifaceted interplay. More than 150 items on loan from the Seiffen Toy Museum and various private collections invite visitors to discover the social and societal background to their creation at two of the largest centres of folk art and toy production in Europe. The joy of the playful details of these colourful worlds in miniature offers young and old space for their own playfulness.
A model of the Seiffen museum pyramid, about one metre high, only plugged in and with the same motifs as the original, will now be on public display for the first time as part of this exhibition.
