The NS-Dokumentationszentrum München (Nazi Documentation Center Munich) is showing an installation of recent works by the artist Zhanna Kadyrova, which were created as a direct reaction to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. They are an expression of civil resistance and artistic defence in the face of military violence.

At the centre of the exhibition is the photographic work "Refugees" (2022): Haunting interior shots document the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine by Russian missiles. Between shattered furniture, tattered curtains and sooty rubble, the only remnants of former life are the houseplants. These damaged organisms were salvaged by the artist; they now find temporary refuge in the exhibition space together with the photographs. As silent survivors, they bear witness to the war crimes that have been committed against the Ukrainian civilian population since February 2022.

The exhibition will be shown as part of the Flower Power Festival Munich 2023.
