Christina Chirulescu, born in Sibiu, Romania, studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Academy of Fine Arts) in Nuremberg. She lives and works in Nuremberg.
In front of Christina Chirulescu's paintings, any questions that might make access difficult quickly disappear. Her works are inviting in the truest sense of the word, even engaging, charming, with a subtle sense of humour, never loud or dramatic. Painting and drawing are on an equal footing and know how to set the scene for each other. They invite us to understand the process that a picture has gone through - right down to the movement of the hand that guides the brush or pencil.
It is often only gestures or traces of processing that make up a picture. Chirulescu's art appears suggestive, sketchy, fragmentary and open. The tangible and figurative appear unexpectedly, always with great grace and fragility.
