"With his fist on the screen", "film as liberation" - this is how Christoph Schlingensief's unconventional film work has been described over the years.
The film sound engineer and friend Eckhard Kuchenbecker documented his collaboration with the filmmaker just as uncompromisingly. From their first meeting at the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design to their subsequent collaboration on 15 films between 1983 and 1995.
Like a ball, the photographer Kuchenbecker captures the gaze of the actors portrayed in magical moments. In addition to Schlingensief and his team, the film family includes Udo Kier, Alfred Edel, Margit Carstensen, Irm Hermann and Volker Spengler.
The exhibition spans an arc from the first cinematic experiments under the influence of Werner Nekes, to the first feature films directed by Schlingensief, from TUNGUSKA to the last joint film UNITED TRASH. The exhibition is supported by material from the Filmmuseum Düsseldorf, dctp and Filmgalerie 451.
Christoph Schlingensief would have turned 65 during the exhibition at KunstLANDing. There will be a special event with film on 25.10.
