Egerland – A home in our hearts
Forms of remembrance
07.11.2026 - 31.01.2027 ,
MuseumsQuartier Tirschenreuth (MuseumsQuartier Tirschenreuth)
The year concludes with the exhibition “EGERLAND – Home in the Heart”. Egerland, a region with its own distinct cultural identity, was abruptly torn apart by the turmoil of war. Yet even displacement and loss have not prevented people from carrying the home they left behind in their hearts. Whether material objects, such as small personal belongings of great sentimental value, or artistic expressions in painting, music or dance – they are all different forms of expression within the culture of remembrance.
In this exhibition, the “Eghalanda Gmoi” showcases all variations of the Egerland traditional costume, which serves as a link to the lost homeland and stands as an artistic testament to craftsmanship.
Also on display are works by the painter Franz Wurtinger (1916–2004). Born in Plan, the artist immortalised motifs from the Egerland in his paintings and drawings throughout his life. Right down to his surviving childhood drawings, this exhibition reflects his deep-seated love for his old homeland, the Egerland.
The Plan-Weseritz Local History Association enriches the exhibition with numerous unique items to highlight the breadth of remembrance culture.
