Historic Christmas at the Wasserburg Museum
22.11.2025 - 06.01.2026 ,
Museum Wasserburg
In the run-up to Christmas, the museum's permanent exhibition presents atmospheric displays of old Advent customs, inviting visitors to linger, reflect and look forward to the arrival of the Christ Child.
In addition to the festively decorated museum rooms with their sparkling Christmas tree, glittering Advent wreath and fragrant St Nicholas plate, there are also three large Wasserburg nativity scenes to discover as special highlights. Each figure in the Beyer cot is unique - the ancestors of the last two owners crafted each piece individually by hand. A second large nativity scene found its way to us from the Franconian region. However, if you look closely, you may still recognise a familiar Wasserburg head in one or other of the figures. The nativity scene from the former St Konrad home is being presented in the Wasserburg Museum for the first time. Originally from the Heiliggeist hospital, it has been lovingly cared for and added to over the decades. In this way, Christmas tradition and creative endeavour, both past and present, delight the hearts of those who see it.
This is why the museum's special exhibition room is also transformed into a creative workshop for nurseries, schools and families. Here, children can make their own Christmas artefacts - nativity scenes and figures, stars, angels and greetings cards - using a wide variety of materials such as natural products, wood, textiles and paper. The space can also be booked by groups or visited by individuals in open creative workshops. These are offered in the evenings and at weekends for anyone who wants to enjoy the holiday season in a relaxed and creative way.
