Old photos, charming paintings, historic sledges and original winter sports equipment tell stories of freezing cold winters and red cheeks, of sporting fun in the snow and hard work.
Ice skating on the "Kapuzinerlacke", tobogganing on the Achatzberg or skiing down the Dreikreuzberg? This was possible in earlier times. Even if the equipment was not yet so sophisticated, snowy winters, low traffic volumes and the light development of the outer districts made winter sports fun possible in the city.
The hardships of winter manifested themselves in everyday life: in hard labour in extreme cold and hunger in times of crisis.
The artists of days gone by immortalised the winters in oil on canvas or charcoal on paper, sometimes depicting the city immersed in tranquillity and melancholy or wildly romantic and radiantly beautiful.
