Lake Starnberg is one of the deepest and most water-rich lakes in Germany. Nestled between wooded hills, with castles and historic villas on its shores, it is probably also one of the most beautiful. The glaciers of the Ice Age shaped the landscape and the lake, which is up to 128 metres deep. Beneath the surface of the water, a world opens up that remains closed to most people - a hidden space full of life and history, a place of nature and science. The exhibition takes you down into the dark waters, where you can find what seems long forgotten on land. Selected stories from the depths tell of life under water, of networks and parasites, of lost boats and people, of myths and the unique Rose Island World Heritage Site. The stories are accompanied by works of art by Anna Pasco Bolta and Eduardo Palomares as well as a sound installation by Andreas Ammer and Acid Pauli.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Institute for Fisheries of the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture, the Bavarian Society for Underwater Archaeology and the German Aerospace Centre.
