It was a small paradise that György and Dorothea Stefula created for themselves in Osternach near Prien from 1955. The "naive" art of the two is in itself inextricably linked, but for the first time Dorothea Stefula and her small treasures will be given the place she deserves as a subtle master of still life and interiors.
Dorothea Hüter was born in Hamburg on 2 February 1914. After studying at the Landeskunstschule Hamburg, she worked as a freelance children's book illustrator. In 1940 she married fellow artist György Stefula with whom she raised three children. Based at Lake Chiemsee from 1943, she mostly created small-format miniatures of an ideal world in an old-masterly style of painting. She favoured the small, the inconspicuous, the fragile, in things and in people. And yet her superficially idyllic pictures always show small injuries. So perhaps a "Paradise Lost" after all. Dorothea Stefula died on 27 December 1997 in Prien.

A model of the spectacular "Priener Turmverschiebung" from 1736 or the famous "Priener Hut" with its gold tassels are of course not to be missed in the central museum of the western Chiemgau. But...
