25.07.2023 - 05.11.2023 ,
Museum Otto Schäfer
The poet Clemens Brentano (1778 - 1842), who died in Aschaffenburg, is depicted with motifs, ciphers, places, people, symbols and scenes related to his life and works: Birthplace and death house in Frankfurt and Aschaffenburg, fairy tale characters such as the "Starling Queen Aglaster", "Prince Mouse Ear", "Goldfish", the "old miller Radlauf". The work is categorised in the Magical Realism style, which combines the real, tangible and visible with elements of the magical, the invisible and dreams. Christian Schad dealt intensively with occult and esoteric themes. Here he took up the idea of "thought pictures".
