In Brigitte Heintze’s work, inspiration drawn from travel plays a central role. The current exhibition showcases her most recent travel sketches, inspired by artist residencies in Finland and Bulgaria. Her love for the landscapes of these places is expressed through paintings, works on paper and a video installation.
The artist is not concerned with depicting landscapes or objects. Rather, through her works, she explores her impressions. In doing so, she also focuses on the small things, their structures and colour harmonies.
As a keen observer, Brigitte Heintze discovers details and pieces them together like ciphers. For example, an oven grate, a relic from a bygone era, found its way into the Hogfors series. Her works not only open up new perspectives on landscapes and objects, they also forge connections between the everyday and the extraordinary.
Characteristic of Brigitte Heintze’s practice is an experimental approach to techniques and materials. She enjoys using special papers, often with local connections and a history of their own – be they discarded found objects, textured Japanese papers or fragments from magazines and photographs.
Her unmistakable artistic signature is evident in paintings as well as in drawings, collages and etchings. The exhibition ‘Reise-Notizen’ offers a unique insight into Brigitte Heintze’s current work and demonstrates just how diverse and surprising an artistic engagement with landscape can be.
