None of the Wittelsbach rulers spent as many days in Bad Kissingen as King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886). He spent a total of almost ten weeks in the popular spa town. Prince Ludwig came to Kissingen with his mother and brother Otto as a child in 1852 and learnt to swim in the river baths of the Franconian Saale.
Twelve years later, shortly after becoming king, Ludwig II visited Kissingen as host to the royal and imperial spa guests. The sensational "Imperial Cure" of 1864 was followed by two further stays in the spa town.
