stART: Michelle Berndt "en passant"

Under the name "stART", the Chair of Art Education and Visual Literacy, the Chair of Art History and Visual Studies and the Museum Moderner Kunst Wörlen Passau (Museum of Modern Art Wörlen Passau) support art education graduates at the University of Passau. In this year's exhibition, Michelle Berndt reflects on the passing of impressions of a city that is only one stop on a journey and is discovered "en passant".

For her first institutional solo exhibition at the Museum Moderner Kunst Wörlen Passau (Museum of Modern Art Wörlen Passau), Michelle Berndt takes up a topic that is important for everyday life in Passau: the large number of tourists who visit Passau every year. "Where do these travellers come from and where do they disappear to? What do they experience on the ship? What do they experience and how do they experience the city? What exactly do they take away from Passau?"
The city of Passau is surrounded by and shaped by water in every way. On the one hand, the city stretches along the Spitz river, while on the other you can see markers of the water on the walls of the houses. Due to its location, Passau once served as a trade hub, and today the city is a popular harbour for many shipping companies. These circumstances inspired Michelle Berndt for the concept of her exhibition "en passant". Specially tailored to Passau and the exhibition space, the artist links two levels of cultural life in Passau in a charming and humorous way: that of the residents and that of the travellers. An installative backdrop allows visitors to the exhibition to slip into the role of travellers. With the help of documentary video recordings, Michelle Berndt brings viewers closer to the world of the travellers and at the same time encourages them to question everyday life in Passau and their view of things.
