Over the past seven years, Passau photographer Rudolf Klaffenböck (*1952) has accompanied
has accompanied the Austrian cabaret artist, actor and director Josef Hader (*1962) with his camera during filming, in private and at stage performances.
Both artists share a dry, laconic sense of humour that traces the scurrility and absurdity of everyday life.
in the everyday. Nothing could be further removed from the philosophy of the classic star portrait, which attempts to capture the aura of glamour and celebrity, than Rudolf Klaffenböck's photographs.
He observes his surroundings with precise subtlety and a subtle sense for the small breaks in so-called normality. His black and white photographs with their fine grey scale stand in stark contrast to the colourful stimuli that flood our perception every day.
In contrast, Josef Hader's portraits exude concentration, attentiveness and a soothing serenity. They create a multi-faceted and multi-layered picture of a personality whose sense of the paradoxical and grotesque has earned him cult status far beyond Austria's borders.
