Museum Moderner Kunst Wörlen Passau (Museum of Modern Art Wörlen Passau)
Since its foundation in 1990, the Museum of Modern Art Wörlen has been responsible for the extensive art collection of the Wörlen Foundation, which at its core comprises over 1,500 works by Georg Philipp Wörlen (1886–1954) and numerous works by his friends from the artists’ groups ‘Der Fels’ and the ‘Donau-Wald-Gruppe’. From August 2022, the museum will present, on a long-term basis on the first floor of the building, works exclusively from the collection alongside a few permanent loans – including three of Bernard Schultze’s famous ‘Mannequin-Migofs’. In this way, the Wörlen Foundation’s collection will be showcased in the museum, highlighting its significance for the region; on the other hand, this allows the public both to encounter familiar and beloved works and to discover new treasures.
On display are delicate, partly coloured drawings by Alfred Kubin and Otto Modersohn with dedications to Georg Philipp Wörlen, as well as exquisite prints by Franz von Stuck, Paula Deppe, Paula Modersohn-Becker and Egon Schiele. The artists of the ‘Danube-Forest Group’ are represented with portraits of women, depictions of animals and landscapes, which demonstrate their sense of belonging to the group through their choice of motifs and their individuality through their diverse styles.
