Museum Moderner Kunst Wörlen Passau (Museum of Modern Art Wörlen Passau)
In the 30th anniversary year of the town twinning of Passau - Budweis, the Museum Moderner Kunst Wörlen is presenting the universally applied work of the internationally esteemed Czech artist Jiří Tichý (České Velenice 1924 - 2013 Budweis). The exhibition documents all creative periods from 1940 to 2008 on the basis of over 100 works from the world's largest private collection of works by the artist.
Jiří Tichý is one of the founders of the international New Textile Art, which since the 1960s has developed an innovative art from a millennia-old traditional craft through his own weaving and for decades found its world centre in the Biennale internationale de la Tapisserie in Lausanne. Tichý exhibited there regularly between 1965 and 1971. In Passau, his textile work is presented exemplarily with tapestries and textile collages and complemented by works from the early period, high-fired enamel paintings, monotypes, frottages, screen prints, collages, xerographs, book art and illustrations as well as examples from his collaboration with architects.
